Important Safety & Emergency Information for Families

When to keep your child at home

Please keep your student home if they have any of the following:

    • Fever of 100°F or higher (before medication)
    • Undiagnosed rash
    • Diarrhea or vomiting
    • Severe sore throat
    • Persistent or severe cough
    • Persistent or severe headache
    • A known communicable disease
    • Head lice

Returning to school: fever-free for 24 hours without medication, and free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours.

Please notify the office of communicable illnesses (chickenpox, strep throat, pink eye, influenza, COVID-19, lice, ringworm, and similar). Follow current health-department guidance for isolation.

    Immunizations

Utah requires certain immunizations for school entry. Find the requirements and the exemption process below.

If your child has received some, but not all, of the required immunizations for their age or grade, or hasn't received any at all, they may be able to enroll conditionally. This means your child can attend school for 30 days while you gather the necessary documents or update their immunizations. Talk to your child's school or childcare provider for more information about this option.

This state website has all the information on what immunizations are required, and how to get an exemption. https://immunize.utah.gov/early-childhood-and-school-requirements/

I Love You Guys Foundation: Standard Response Protocol

Timpanogos Academy uses The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP) to provide a clear, consistent way to respond to emergencies and safety situations. The protocol uses five simple actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. Each action tells students and staff what to do, rather than requiring them to figure out how to respond during an emergency.

We use the SRP because having the same language and procedures helps students, staff, families, and first responders stay on the same page. Regular practice helps everyone know what to expect and how to respond quickly and calmly when an emergency occurs.

This PDF breaks down each action, student & staff guidance, and parent guidance. Standard Response Protocol

Emergency Response: Know the 5 Actions
    • HOLD – Stay in your current area and remain there until the situation is resolved. Hallways should remain clear.
    • SECURE – Bring everyone inside, secure exterior doors, and continue normal activities inside the building.
    • LOCKDOWN – Lock classroom doors, turn off lights, stay quiet and out of sight, and do not open the door until the lockdown is cleared.
    • EVACUATE – Leave the building and move to the designated evacuation location. Follow staff instructions and remain with your class.
    • SHELTER – Move to a designated safe location and follow instructions based on the specific hazard, such as severe weather or an earthquake.
    Regular Safety Drills

Timpanogos Academy will hold regular safety drills throughout the school year to practice the Standard Response Protocol and help students and staff know how to respond during an emergency. These drills will include Fire, Hold, Secure, and Lockdown drills. Students will be informed on the day that these drills will take place. Parents will not receive advance notification of these routine drills so that we can practice procedures as realistically as possible.

We will also conduct Evacuation and Reunification drills. Because these drills involve additional planning, coordination, and procedures for families, parents will be notified in advance whenever an Evacuation and Reunification drill is scheduled. Timpanogos Academy will not conduct an Evacuation and Reunification drill without first notifying parents.

    Emergency Communication

All emergency communications from Timpanogos Academy will be sent through BrightArrow by email and/or text message. To opt in to emergency text messages, please text “Yes” to 79041.

    During a Lockdown:

For the safety of everyone in the building, parents and visitors will not be allowed to enter the school during a lockdown. Parents will be notified when the threat has been cleared and it is safe to enter the building.

    During an Evacuation:

If the school must evacuate, students will be taken to a designated reunification site. Parents will not be allowed to take their children before arriving at the reunification site. Students must remain with school staff until they reach the designated reunification site and the reunification process can begin.

Once at the reunification site, parents or authorized individuals will be required to follow the check-out process and be verified by Timpanogos Academy staff before a student can be released.

More information about our reunification process and procedures will be provided to families in the future.
