Our Curriculum

At Timpanogos Academy, we believe a strong education begins with a strong foundation. Our curriculum provides students with the knowledge, skills, and academic challenge they need to become confident, capable learners. We use Saxon Math, Core Knowledge History and Science, Core Knowledge Language Arts, and Spalding Education Language Arts to provide a structured and well-rounded academic experience.

See below for more information about each of our curriculum programs.

How We Learn

    Saxon Math

Saxon Math is a K–12 mathematics curriculum that introduces new concepts in small, manageable steps while continually reviewing previously learned skills. This incremental, spiral approach gives students frequent opportunities to practice and apply what they have learned, helping them build a strong and lasting foundation in mathematics.

At Timpanogos Academy, we teach mathematics one grade level ahead. For example, our 1st grade students use the 2nd grade Saxon Math curriculum, and our 5th grade students use the 6th grade curriculum. This allows students to be consistently challenged while building strong mathematical skills through Saxon’s structured approach and cumulative review.

    Core Knowledge History and Science

Core Knowledge History & Science provides students with a knowledge-rich foundation in history, geography, and science. Students explore American history, world civilizations, cultures, geography, civics, and the arts while building on knowledge learned in previous grades.

The science curriculum develops understanding through reading, hands-on activities, and scientific practices. Students study topics in life, physical, and earth and space science, as well as the human body, computer science, and engineering.

Together, these programs help students build a strong foundation of knowledge and understanding across the sciences and humanities.

    Core Knowledge Language Arts

Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a comprehensive literacy program that develops students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. The curriculum uses a structured, research-based approach to reading instruction, with explicit teaching of foundational skills such as phonemic awareness and phonics while building vocabulary, knowledge, fluency, and comprehension.

At Timpanogos Academy, we use the updated Amplify CKLA program, which builds on the original Core Knowledge Language Arts curriculum and helps students become confident readers, writers, and thinkers.

A free version of the earlier CKLA curriculum is available through the Core Knowledge website using the links below.

    Spalding Education: Spelling Method

Spalding Education Language Arts uses an explicit, interactive, and sequential approach to literacy instruction. Students are taught new skills step-by-step, with teachers modeling concepts, guiding students through practice, and gradually building toward independent mastery.

At Timpanogos Academy, we use Spalding as our spelling program. The program emphasizes phonemic awareness, systematic phonics, and high-frequency vocabulary, helping students develop strong foundational reading and spelling skills while building confidence as readers and writers.
